National GLAAD presenting training at The Center on March 25 at The Center regarding media surrounding the murder of Angie Zapata. The GLBT is encouraged to attend this free seminar scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at The Center at 1050 Broadway, Denver. CO 80203. Angie Zapata was a transgender Latina living in Greeley when she was savagely beaten to death on July 17, 2008. Allen Ray Andrade, 31, a sex partner told authorities he killed her after discovering that she was transgender. His trial is scheduled for April 14 at the Weld County Courthouse. It will be the first time that Colorado's hate crime law will be used against a defendant in a homicide trial.

Designated Beneficiary Agreements provide a new tool for estate planning, giving Coloradans access to a low-cost and convenient method for making plans for end-of-life decisions, inheritance, and other protections related to health care and medical emergencies. They provide the opportunity for two unmarried adults to designate one another as the person entitled to certain financial protections and decision-making powers in major life events. This workshop will explain the details; provide attendees with the forms and information on where to file the forms depending on where they live. A notary will be available, you must have photo ID to have your form notarized. Childcare will be available, if possible please bring a donation to cover costs.
