Social/Support

The Center supports various ways for people to engage in social and/or support groups. We strive to connect people to their community, to friends and to a social support network. We are also there for community members looking for groups that will support them in overcoming personal challenges.

Jewish Family Service and The Center collaborate on GLBT caregiver education and support group!
Jewish Family Service (JFS) and The Center are launching a new caregiver education and support group for members of the LGBT community. The ongoing group will be held the first and third Thursday of every month (Mar. 5 and 19) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sixth Avenue United Church, 3250 East Sixth Avenue in Denver. The group is open to members of the GLBT community who are in a caregiver role. The support group is free of charge and donations are welcome.

The caregiver group is facilitated by Jennie Creasey, LCSW and Dee Trasen, LCSW from JFS, and Shari Wilkins, a caregiver and member of the GLBT community. “Caring for someone is challenging in the best of situations, let alone in difficult situations,” says Jennie Creasey. “It is important to receive support from people who know what you are going through in your unique situation and want to help.”

Gender Bender Fun - A Social Group for the Trans Community of Denver

Gender Bender Fun is a new and distinct group for the trans and gender diverse community that complements traditional support groups. All members of the trans and gender diverse community are welcome: TG, TS, drag queens, and any adult who is gender-variant. We will dress in our unique ways, play games, move around, eat, plan activities, and in general, keep it light. Again, this is not a traditional support group, but a social fun group.

Gender Bender Fun will meet at The Center, at 1050 Broadway in Denver, on the first Thursday of every month, starting Thursday, April 2, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. Culum Walsh, a resident of Denver and a relatively new member of the trans community, will facilitate the first three meetings.

For more information, email him at conucosfund@yahoo.com, or call Rahn Anderson, Volunteer Coordinator at The Center, at 733-7743, x109.
